Reporting: Thursday June 5, 2025, White House visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz
President Donald Trump welcomed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House.
Summary of the Press Conference
After general statements from President Trump and Chancellor Merz, the president invited the Media to ask questions. These ranged from the ‘Big Beautiful Bill (BBB), Inflation, Musk’s war of words against the Bill, US-China Relations, Chinese students being granted visas to study in the US, Border Security, Russia-Ukraine War, Gaza’s attack on Israel, the Trump Travel Ban, the Biden Auto Pen Scandal, North Stream Pipeline and Energy.
Furthermore, Chancellor Merz stated that President Trump was the key person in the world.
He emphasized Germany wanted to see the war between Russia and Ukraine ended and that his visit to the White House was intended to contribute to that goal. He also stressed that he was looking for more support for Ukraine. He contended that this war has been on for 3 & 1/2 years.
Chancellor Merz also stated that Germany was grateful to the US for the liberation from the Nazi and that D –Day will be commemorated on June 6th.
On the other hand, President Trump underscored concerning the Russia-Ukraine War, that there was bad blood between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. He indicated that maybe both sides need to keep on fighting. And that immediate peace was not in sight.
President Trump further cited his success with India and Pakistan and the fact the war never escalated, and that they both have strong leadership. He also expressed his wish he could do the same for Russia and Ukraine.
