President Donald Trump flanked by Administration’s national security officials announced Monday in the White House Briefing Room Liberation Day in DC!

Liberation Day comes amidst concerns President Trump articulated about his and his Administration’s efforts to enhance the security, cleanliness and beautification of Washington DC, the nation’s capital.

He emphasized that they were taking the capital back! Thus, President Trump invoked Section 740 of the District of Colombia Home Rule Act. This Act vested in him the authority to undertake governance of Washington DC and it grants him the power to place the DC Police under direct Federal control. Thus, approximately 800 National Guard officers will be deployed in DC to help reestablish law, order and public safety.

He also signed two Executive Orders (EOs), earlier in the White House, to establish the necessary governing authority for himself, the Attorney General, the US Attorney for DC, Defense Secretary and other officials to make Washington DC safe, clean and beautiful again.

President Trump stated that the murder rate in Washington DC was much higher than some of the worst places on earth.

In a chart provided by the White House, the 2024 Murder Rater per 100K figures show DC standing taller than the 10 other nations on the list. Washington DC has a higher murder rate than Bogota, Mexico City, Islamabad, Lima, Ottawa, Paris, Havana, Delhi, London and Madrid.

President Trump lamented the state of affairs in Washington DC. He drew on examples of the public safety crises, which he outlined, were caused by a number of bad policies, including no cash bail, intolerance to punishment of juveniles and lawlessness. Thus, in addition to murders, car thefts have doubled in the past five years, the number of carjacking has more than triple, and DC has been over taken by violent gangs, mobs of wild youths, drug users and pushers, and homeless people who have taken up positions in national parks and under overpasses.

President Trump also promises to clean up a number of other cities across America, including Chicago and New York.
